Hearth : Home is a closed species ARPG. What does that mean? We're a group that allows members to create characters according to certain requirements (the closed species part), then upgrade and customize those characters through art, writing, and roleplaying (the ARPG part). Oh, and while we're at it, let's create a fictional world together.
Hearth : Home's focus is on working together to collaboratively create a shared world, The Hearth, in which players can set their characters' adventures. These characters are Scoria, our versatile, endlessly customizable closed species. Scoria start out as limbless, snake-like figures, but can be upgraded into almost any form with points earned through drawing and writing.
So, how do you play?
1. Collect characters. Players can acquire Scoria as either adoptables or make-your-own slots (MYO's). Both adoptables and MYO's can be earned in multiple ways, ranging from group participation to outright purchases to raffles and contests.
2. Earn currency. Hearth : Home uses two forms of currency: each player has a personal store of tinder, while each Scoria has a personal store of kindling. Both tinder and kindling are earned by creating pieces that depict Scoria. The artist of each piece receives tinder, while the Scoria depicted receive kindling.
3. Upgrade designs. Scoria have many possible forms, but some elements of those forms must be unlocked with tinder and kindling. Want your Scoria to have bigger horns? Spikes? Wings? Better get to work! (See: The Forge.)
4. ??? Meet people. Have fun. Roleplay. Chat. Collaborate. Make art. Develop your characters. Build a world.
5. Profit. In experience, art, and fun. Cash, not so much. But be sure to check the rules to see where that is allowed if you are interested in doing commissions related to Hearth : Home.
